Food Tax
March28, 2010

I have been inundated by e-mails and calls in opposition to the food tax from Democrats, Republicans, liberals and conservatives.  Never have I received such broad based opposition to a particular law.

As a result, I contacted the governor's office about two weeks ago letting them know that I felt a veto of this tax would be wise.  I want to thank the Governor for responding to the broad public opposition to this budget provision and following through with the veto.

I have opposed this provision since it was first floated late last year both for it's regressivity and because it was drafted in a manner that simply pushed state budget problems down to cities and counties.

Thank you all for making your voices heard.  Your voices have made democracy work.

Best,
Steve
